Holy Trinity Gosport music events: Andy Quin, Piano & Organ – “Music from the Movies and Beyond”

Tropical beach

Andy Quin, 4 December

‘Now that was our Handel organ as we’ve never heard it before – well certainly not since Andy Quin’s last performance here at Holy Trinity in (we think) 2018!

Today, Andy talked about how fortunate he has been in life but it was clear who was fortunate this afternoon – and that was us, his audience!

The whole programme – on both organ and piano – was universally acclaimed!  We loved the early improvisations around well-known classics such as Autumn Leaves and You are the Sunshine of My Life, where truly unique and impressive improvisation included a form of wave effect across the keyboard.

Andy’s own compositions from A Children’s Magical World were truly remarkable, including one piece that was so expressive it felt like it was talking to us…On piano, Andy wowed us with a music medley: a synopsis of The Great American Songbook: shades of Fred Astaire, George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Irving Berlin,  followed by his own composition in a tribute to his wife (when she was still his girlfriend 40 years ago) called Fantasia in A Minor – oh my goodness Anne must have been bowled over by this hugely impressive composition.

We ended our thanks by reminding ourselves that Holy Trinity always attracts musicians of great talent – though none that quite compares with Andy Quin!  And guess what – he’s willing to come again!  How fortunate are we?
