The St. Matthew Passion is the largest single composition that Bach ever wrote and is considered by many to be one of the greatest creations of Western Civilization.

Originally planned for performance before Covid, Portsmouth Choral Union will be presenting this work for their Spring concert, on April 1st 2023.  Joining them in this performance will be the renowned Bournemouth Sinfonietta Choir, a team of professional soloists and Southern Pro Musica – all under the direction of conductor David Gostick.

This dramatic work requires two antiphonally positioned choirs – each with their own group of instrumentalists.  The interaction between these two groups of performers highlights the drama of the Easter story and contrasts with ravishingly beautiful music for solo voices – and is a must for all lovers of vocal music.

The performance, at St Mary’s Church Portsea, will begin at 7.30 p.m. (April 1st).
