Hugh Carpenter, conductor of the Portsmouth Philharmonic Orchestra since 2014, is set to lay down his baton after the orchestra’s concert on Sunday 24 March in aid of the Portsea Pantry.

The programme features soloist Catherine Lawlor playing Kabalevsky’s Violin Concerto in C Major, along with Butterworth’s The Banks of Green Willow and Haydn’s ‘Drumroll’ Symphony.

Proceeds of the concert will go to the Portsea Pantry and Portsmouth South MP Stephen Morgan will be attending the concert.

The concert starts at 3pm at the Church of the Resurrection, Penryn Avenue, Drayton and tickets, priced £10 for adults, including a complimentary programme courtesy of the orchestra’s print partner Bishops, are available on the door or online.

Orchestra Chair Di Lloyd said: “We are all sad to be seeing Hugh leave the orchestra, but we wish him well. He has been a tremendous servant and in his ten years at the helm the orchestra has progressed significantly.”
