Portsmouth Chamber Music Series presents the Marmen Quartet on 20 January at Portsmouth Guildhall.
The Marmen Quartet gave us a highly memorable performance back in 2018 when they also played Mozart and Beethoven. This time it is one of my favourite of all Beethovens – the very short Op. 95 quartet in F minor, and Mozart’s famous ‘Dissonance’ quartet. With it, a mercurial quartet by Bartok – his 3rd – and a new piece by New Zealand composer Salina Fisher. Four more contrasting works it is hard to imagine.
