Chantry Quire News

Tropical beach

The Chantry Quire are well underway with rehearsals for their performance of Monteverdi Vespers, due to take place on 29th March 2025 at Boxgrove Priory. Tickets are selling fast, so do be sure to buy yours, there are only four weeks to go!

We are particularly excited to be joined by the Western Wyndes, led by Jeremy West. Jeremy is one of the founding members of His Majesty’s Sagbutts and Cornetts, a group of virtuoso windplayers, who specialise in playing Renaissance and Baroque music in historically appropriate styles on original instruments. Jeremy has hand-picked a group of players specifically for this performance, and we can’t wait to hear them.

We are also very much looking forward to welcoming our soloists Guy Elliott and Jon Grave, who will be undertaking the florid and virtuosic tenor solos. The choir’s founder Chris Larley will be undertaking the solo versicles and antiphons, and the other solos will be from within the choir.

Future dates for your diary

Looking further ahead, we will be performing next on 19th July at 1pm in Petworth Parish Church as part of the Petworth Summer Festival. This is the first time that we have taken part in this event, and we are very much looking forward to it. Amongst our repertoire will be Jonathan Dove’s ‘The Passing of the Year’, a very exciting piece of music. Tickets for this will be available via the Petworth Summer Festival website, the timetable of which will be launched soon.

On Wednesday 10th September we will be singing Evensong in Chichester Cathedral. We took part in this last autumn, so we are very happy to be able to repeat this again in 2025.

On 22nd November we will be performing our Winter concert at Petworth Parish Church, so watch this space for more details.

And finally, we have been invited by Goodwood House to sing Carols at their ever-popular Afternoon tea and Carols on Thursday 18th December, so that really will give a fantastic end to our year!

In the meantime, we look forward to welcoming you to Boxgrove Priory on the 29th March, for a real treat!
