21 June, David Russell Theatre, Portsmouth Grammar School

Favourite choruses, arias and ensembles from the world of grand opera!

The Chorus of The Hebrew Slaves (Va Pensiero) from Verdi’s opera Nabucco is arguably the most famous of all opera choruses, and it will once again justify its popularity in Portsmouth Choral Union’s forthcoming ‘A Night at the Opera’ concert.

This, the choir’s summer concert will feature choruses, arias and ensembles from the world of grand opera. As well as familiar works such as the Habanera from Bizet’s Carmen and The Easter Hymn from Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana and the exciting Polotsvian Dances from Borodin’s Prince Igor, there will be less well-known items such as the beautiful Voyagers’ Chorus from Mozart’s rarely heard Idomeneo and The Chorus of Enchanted Islanders from Handel’s opera Alcina.

A team of professional soloists will also sing arias and ensembles from much loved operas and will also join with the chorus for  the Habanera, Toreador’s Song and The Easter Hymn.  For all lovers of opera and choral music, this is a concert not to be missed.

Come along to the David Russell Theatre, Portsmouth Grammar School on Saturday 21 June at 7.30 p.m. for a fantastic night of fantastic music.

And just as important – there is parking at the school!
