Under the aegis of Chichester Music Society, Ensemble Reza returns to Chichester for a special evening of chamber music inspired by the rich folk traditions of Central and Eastern Europe at Christ Church (Methodist and United Reformed) on Monday 23 March at 7pm.

Joining them is acclaimed Romanian violinist Bogdan Văcărescu, in collaboration with outstanding young musicians from the University of Chichester Conservatoire. Renowned for his expressive, virtuosic playing and his versatility to bridge classical and traditional music, Bogdan brings a distinctive perspective shaped by Romania’s living folk traditions: he reimagines Romanian Folk Dances by Béla Bartók in the spirit of the Romanian village styles that inspired it, weaving in authentic folk melodies and improvisatory flourishes. The result is a vibrant, spontaneous performance that brings Bartók’s folk roots thrillingly to life.

This vibrant programme brings together the warmth of Romantic chamber music with the rhythmic fire of Central and Eastern European folk traditions. Audiences will be swept from the lyrical beauty of Brahms to the spirited dances and melodies that inspired composers such as Dvořák, Suk, and Bartók.

Expect music that sings, dances, and pulses with life: from the glowing harmonies of Brahms’ Sextet in B-flat and Quintet in G, to the shimmering elegance of Suk’s Serenade, the lively character of Bartók’s Romanian Dances, and the folk-infused charm of Dvořák’s “American” and Slavonic quartets. The programme also features colourful arrangements of traditional Balkan melodies, bringing the sounds of village celebrations and timeless folk songs into the concert hall.

Join us for an evening where classical elegance meets folk spirit — a journey through music full of passion, energy, and unforgettable melodies.
