Jonathan Willcocks writes about the next Southern Pro Musica concert in St. Paul’s Church, Chichester at 7.30pm on Saturday 25 April.

“I am so looking forward to conducting Southern Pro Musica in a really attractive orchestral concert – a lovely venue combining excellent acoustics, a beautiful environment, good audience facilities and easy nearby parking.

“The programme really is terrific – including two of the greatest classical symphonies – Mozart – Symphony no.40 in G minor and Schubert – Symphony no.5 in Bb, and the brilliant trumpeter Fraser Tannock playing Hummel – Trumpet concerto (rightly considered as one of the finest concertos for that instrument).

“Born locally in Horndean, Fraser spent his youth playing trumpet with bands and orchestras in the Portsmouth, Petersfield and Chichester areas. Coming to prominence as winner of the Royal Overseas League Commonwealth Competition and the Philip Jones Prize, Fraser now combines a career as an international soloist with work as principal trumpet with such ensembles such London Chamber Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, RTÉ Concert Orchestra, ENO, London Concert Orchestra (as well as regularly with Southern Pro Musica). As the concert title suggests, it will be a wonderful evening of ‘Great Classics’.”
