This special concert, set within the intimate surroundings of Portsmouth Cathedral, features an authentic performance with The Capelle Baroque Orchestra on period instruments, offering rich depth and resonance true to the time in which Messiah was composed.
A highlight of the Cathedral’s concert calendar, the oratorio tells the story of the birth, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. First performed in Dublin in 1742, it was an immediate triumph for Handel, already renowned for his oratorios. Remarkably composed in just 24 days, Messiah remains one of the most beloved and powerful choral works nearly three centuries later.
